Rebecca,

You are quite right, this is very serious and you have every right to be concerned how the data may be used. The fact that there was no mention of any theft recovery software, or data protection software on the device is also troubling, you would assume that there are policies in place regarding how IT data is managed.

Both my husband and I received letters today. This has nothing to do with Starbucks squirming, but everything to do with A LOT of personal, very sensitive information being stolen. It has nothing to do with Starbucks; it happens all the time everywhere, and it can happen to anyone. I don't appreciate someone thinking that this is funny. I am completely on edge about this. I've worked for the company for 7 1/2 years, and never in that time have I ever questioned the safety of my information. We have a one year old and one on the way, and I'm concerned how that's going to reflect our lives if something does happen with our information. As of right now, the information hasn't been misused; however, there is a black market for this kind of thing. I'm definitely calling corporate tomorrow to find out what they intend to do about this, other than the year of credit monitoring.

Hello Diane. Yes this is for real, you are the third to confirm.

We are trying to bring more media attention to this, vote for the article on digg.com here:

Pretty amazing we break the story last night and very few diggs. It might be that there are so many of these data breaches nowadays, that nobody cares anymore.
